Crash Course According to the Crash Course video, Why do cinema audiences end up with "only reboots and dystopian fantasies"?  It is because Hollywood is driven by trends as the success of one film or genre inspires others to do the same thing. Science Fiction Science fiction, often called “sci -fi,” is a genre of  fiction  literature whose content is imaginative, but based in  science . It relies heavily on  scientific  facts, theories, and principles as support for its settings, characters, themes, and plot-lines, which is what makes it different from fantasy. Some examples of sci-fi movies are Bladerunner , The Martian and Avatar.  Some sub genres of science fiction are:  *Alien Invasion - Independence Day  *Cyberpunk - Bladerunner  *Dying Earth - Take Shelter  *First Contact - Star Trek  *Galactic Empire - Star Wars  *Human Development - Shutter Island There are many other sub genres that make up science fiction.

Film Noir..

Features of Film Noir The main features of a film noir film is to be an oppressive atmosphere of penance, pessimism, anxiety, suspicion that anything can go wrong, dingy realism, futility, fatalism, defeat and entrapment were stylised characteristics of film noir. The protagonists in film noir were normally driven by their past or by human weakness to repeat former mistakes. An example of a film noir movie that we are looking at this year would be the Lady From Shanghai. This movie shows some classic features of film noir as it consists of black and white image, shadows and the characters face a lot of deception throughout the movie. Also its ending scene "the hall of mirrors" shows a clear representation of the genre.

Microfeatures..

Microfeatures/Film Noir Some types of micro features include ; cinematography, mis-en-scene, sound, editing and performance. However, the two main micro features that we are focused on are Cinematography and Mis-en-scene. Cinematography  *use of camera to create meaning  *lighting  *compostition of shots  *framing and focus of shots  *use of different shots  *use camera movements Mis-en-scene  *helps to think of the elements you can see in the staging of the play  *a location of setting  *wardrobe for characters  *objects and props  *actors will move in particular ways  *lighting

Editing..

 Editing Editing is the process of selecting from the range of different shots available and joining them together to tell a story or narrative. It is often known as the invisible art as we can not see anything but the final choices .   The first use of editing was in the turn of the twentieth century , audiences watched single reels of a few minutes in length and they were usually long shot.
